Louisa Comber

Louisa was born in Flin Flon, Canada and went to Zambia with her parents when she was one year old. Seven more siblings joined her over the next 15 years.  She lived all over the “Copperbelt”, including one stint in a very remote area where the poor pet dog was attacked and eaten by lions right outside the back door!!  Dad was away at work so the four siblings at that time and Mom slept together in one bed that night!

The family left Zambia in the mid-sixties after the country gained independence. They returned to Canada where both parents were born.  It was rather a shock to go from being raised in the tropics to the frozen north!

Louisa and her husband Ian, an Australian whom she met in London, England have two grown children. Ian worked as a Millwright Journeyman with the city of Calgary. Louisa is working in public health now for many years with a wonderful group of people. Their daughter Natalie works at the Tom Baker Cancer Center in the pharmacy and their son Sean worked in the oil and gas sector and now is a recent graduate completing an IT networking course at SAIT.  They also enjoy “Monty” their mighty Yorkie dog!

She enjoys reading, sewing, volunteering, cycling, hiking and traveling.  She especially enjoys the yoga lessons taught by her sister Katie and admiring the art that her sister Peggy creates here. She has traveled to places such as Australia (where she got married), Cuba, India, Thailand, Vietnam and Europe.

Louisa has been doing many things to help out with the fundraising. One of them is Hand Sewing the Cutest Little Baby Booties. Every baby should be wearing them!  See the Fundraising page for more details. You can also see what Louisa is up to on her FB page

Louisa’s first Global Village experience was in Sep 2010 in Zambia, she has been on many more builds back there as well as in Vietnam.
