Peggy was born in Luanshya, Zambia and spent the first 15 years of her life there, in places like Mufulira, Chingola, Bancroft and some places that weren’t on any map at the time the family lived there. She came to Canada with her parents and 7 siblings shortly after Zambia gained its Independence in the mid-sixties.
She worked for many years in the banking sector, and retired a few years ago, at which point she decided to volunteer with the local Habitat for Humanity group in Calgary. She has been a weekly volunteer with Habitat since 1995 and worked on 6 different building sites in the city.
Peggy and her husband Rick are the proud grandparents of 5 grandchildren, and four grown children. Between times enjoying grandchildren, she has been able to travel to some exciting places like India, Africa, Europe, Australia and Thailand, she also paints and enjoys the benefits of yoga, thanks to her Yoga-teacher sister Katie, who is also going on this trip. And loves the creative sewing talents of her sister Louisa who makes the cutest baby booties to help support their fundraising efforts.
Peggy is also a very talented artist, you can find her work on her FaceBook page Album My Paintings
Peggy’s first Global Village Build was in Sep 2010 in Zambia. She has also volunteered on builds in the Yukon Territories, Northern Canada & Vietnam. In 2011 she decided to take the training to be a Team Leader with Habitat for Humanity and has worked alongside her fellow teammates back in Zambia every year since. Peggy believes the strength of the team is each individual member and the unique skills that they bring.
