2015 Zambia Yoga Fundraiser

It was amazing. So many generous yogis showed up to support us.
We raised $1,000 USD and everyone left relaxed and uplifted.

Prior to building the houses in 2015, we organized a Yoga Fundraiser to raise funds for the local Habitat affiliate and to raise awareness about the work that Habitat for Humanity Zambia was doing in the community.  It was an all-day event, yoga in the morning, an info session presented by Habitat, a vegetarian lunch, yoga in the afternoon and then a fun raffle with many prizes.  It was amazing, so many generous yogis showed up to support us.   We raised $1,000 USD and everyone left relaxed and uplifted.

Behind the scenes, there were many people who worked very hard to make this all possible. Our core team Rick (brother-in-law) and the 3 sisters, Louisa, Peggy, and Kathryn.  Rick was our man of all trades, driving, picking up supplies, set up, tear down, and always being there just when you needed him.  Louisa was the number one and only chief cook who worked endless hours to prepare the absolutely scrumptious meals that was so nicely presented and enjoyed by everyone.  Peggy who tirelessly handmade beautiful decorations, gift bags, and table settings. Kathryn who prepared the yoga sessions and taught the classes, and all the team collectively for the prepping of the million and one logistical things-to-do from start to finish.  The Wayside B&B for generously providing the space as well as supporting us to make sure everything was just right, and Cheba Chakulya, Event Planner who took care of the tickets, calling, arranging and bringing all those yogis to us!   The generous businesses who donated prizes, Sanctuary Lodges, Lululemon, Foodlovers, Leila Stuart Yoga Therapy.  And Habitat for Humanity Zambia for participating and telling us about their work in the community.

One of the participants shared a very heartfelt thank you to us that we would love to share.

To everyone who was involved in yesterday’s Yoga Living event for Habitat for Humanity, THaNK yOu!!!!!!!! I had such a great day and hope you’ll be back in Zambia next year to build some more houses and to spread this beautiful gift that is yoga.

Lululemon, the biggest thank you in the world for sponsoring such a gorgeous gift THaT I WON. I am over the moon with Urban Sanctuary Bag, mat, water bottle and headband. I love it all so much. The whole day I was thinking about the bag (I was the sky and that beautiful bag was the clouds). I will treasure my gifts and wear them with pride. Now, every time I use my new mat I get to think of this special day.

Cheba, thank you for being so professional and for the great communication and all the running around you did with tickets and emails sent etc.

Food Lovers, thank you for the yummy delicious spread and the chefs at the Wayside for making such a delicious lunch. That was a vegetarians delight.

The Wayside for the beautiful and tranquil setting and to all the volunteers who worked hard to make it a great day.

Habitat for humanity, thank you for the amazing work that you do. It was awesome to spend the day with you.

And lastly but most importantly thank you to Kathryn and Peggy for putting this event together. You are both an inspiration and it was great to meet to such special people and spend the day in your company. It was an honor to be a part of Yoga Living for a day.

Much love, Namaste
Sam
